The Little Mermaid Play Review

Nazareth Academy’s production of the Little Mermaid was a success! The cast and crew worked hard for months to put on their best performances. Nazareth Academy HS welcomed Saint Matthew’s Grade School, Alpha House, and Nazareth Academy Grade School to attend the first show on November 2nd. Shortly thereafter, the cast performed five more times in front of crowded audiences in the gym. The stage crew transformed the gym into an under-the-sea oasis.  The cast perfectly portrayed the story of a mermaid who wished to walk on land alongside her prince. The lead role of Ariel was played by Kaitlyn Pfeifer ‘23. Kaitlyn has loved The Little Mermaid since she was little and was ecstatic to perform as Ariel. For Kaitlyn, “Getting to perform as a Disney Princess and bringing joy and some Disney magic to the audience was a dream come true.” The play version of the iconic movie included many of the original songs, including Part of Your World which happened to be Kaitlyn’s favorite one to perform. She stated, “I’ve loved that song forever, and singing it on the Naz stage is something that I’ll never forget.” Kaitlyn has been performing with Nazareth since her freshman year; however, this year was extra momentous. “This was such a memorable senior show because I got to perform closely with all of my fellow seniors on the stage. I remember all of us our freshman year performing Mama Mia, so seeing our growth and how far we’ve all come by doing The Little Mermaid was a very special experience.”  The theater department at Nazareth spends so much time together, and its members have become Kaitlyn’s second family. Her favorite part of the theater department this year was “all of the people involved in the show who made it the absolute best.”  She followed that up with, “They are the most talented group of people I’ve ever met, and I love them all so much.” Overall, Nazareth Academy’s take on the classic Disney movie, The Little Mermaid, was top-notch and one to remember.
