Freshman Week Covid Style

Freshman Week Covid Style

For the first time in Nazareth history, Freshman Week was two separate weeks. Prior to the beginning of both weeks Freshmen and Seniors were able to meet each other. Seniors were assigned to make posters for their Freshmen, so it was easy to find them when they went outside by the gazebo to meet them during activity period. The festive week had some changes to it, but the Freshmen and Seniors made it work.

Freshmen were able to be dressed up during the week with theme days. The themes were Crazy Hair and Makeup Day, Meme Day, Disney Day, Celebrity Day, and lastly Green Day. Usually the Seniors are supposed to dress up their Freshmen, but sadly they could not due to safety guidelines. However, seniors were able to decorate their freshmen lockers like we do for someone’s birthday.

Prior to the Little Miss Freshman Pageant that happens at the end of the week, the L-Team had to figure out a different way to find contestants for the pageant. The past years the freshmen would have to get Senior signatures. So, the L-Team hid pandas around the school building. The pandas were an image on a piece of paper and freshmen had to send a picture of themselves holding the paper to Molly Taggart. For the Blue cohort only five freshmen found a panda while the gold cohort found all 7 pandas that were set out for the Freshmen. On the day of the pageant, the L-Team chose two Freshmen from the crowd for the Blue cohort to make the total to seven contestants.

At the end of the fun week, we had our annual Freshmen Day mass. During the Activity Block was when the Little Miss Freshman Pageant happened. Both pageants had the same events, but little changes. The events included dance battles, introducing yourself, Nazareth trivia, finish the lyrics, and impressions. Since there were two pageants, there were different questions, impressions, and songs to finish the lyric too. Before the events started the past Little Miss Freshmen were the opening act. Their skit included recently trending Tik Tok dances. As the pageant was happening, the L-team would start eliminating some contestants until there were three Freshmen left on the stage. Before the pageants were over the L-Team did their skit based on the Nickelodeon show ICarly. The fun weeks ended with two Little Miss Freshmen, Aniela “Nell” Duesler and Annaliese Steiner. For right now they are both in the battle for the official title. Who knows when the event will take place in 2021? If the event does not happen, they will be the first to both hold the title of Little Miss Freshman. On behalf of the Seniors and Freshmen, we thank all of the faculties, administrators, or anyone that helped make Freshmen Week happen. If you missed out on the event or want to watch it again both Little Miss Freshman Pageants can be found on YouTube via Naz News.
