I talked to Katie Thackrah about the Cross Country season! Between Naz-A-Thon and Kairos, Katie’s plate is full, but with the success the team is having, she has no problem juggling a heavy workload and XC!
How many years have you been on Cross Country?
This is my first year on cross country, but I’ve been on track for the last four years at Naz! I played
soccer during my freshman and sophomore years, but not junior. I took off for a
season junior year.
Are you on any other sports at Naz? Which is your favorite?
I run track both indoor and outdoor season, but I definitely think since joining cross country that it’s become my favorite!
What other clubs and activities are you in?
I’m going to be leading Kairos this October, and I am the Senior Director of Family Relations for Naz-A-Thon 2017!
Describe how you balance homework, cross country, and other activities like Naz-A-Thon.
At times, it can definitely be a challenge, but I try my best to make sure I am managing my time as much as I possibly can so I’m able to accomplish the tasks that are given to me!
Do you plan on running in college?
I am not exactly sure yet. I am still figuring that out!
What is one of your favorite memories of Cross Country?
My favorite memory was definitely going to the Six Flags meet during Fright Fest! I bonded a lot with the team that day, and it was so fun!
Cheerleading-
You might know Taylor Hinds as an active member of NHS and Mu Alpha Theta, but what we know her best for is captain of the cheer team! Taylor has high hopes for her last season, and hopefully, the girls can make it a magical year, especially finishing the year out at Walt Disney World!
How long have you been a cheerleader?
I have been cheering for 9 years, but I have cheered all four years at Naz!
What other clubs and activities are you in?
Freshman and Sophomore year, I played Lacrosse. It was really fun but time-consuming, so I just stuck with Cheer! I’m also a part of Mu Alpha Theta, Panda Pals, Photography Club, and Cancer Awareness Club.
Describe how you balance homework, cheer, and other activities like NHS.
I keep a planner to write down my practices, meeting times, and homework to keep me organized so that I know what needs to be done every day.
Are you thinking about cheering in college? Where are you thinking about going?
I really love Pitt and Penn State! I would definitely cheer in college. It would be a lot, but I’ve been doing it for so long, I can’t imagine not doing it!
What is one of your favorite memories of being on cheer?
Going to nationals for the first time was definitely my favorite memory! It was so much fun, I hope we can go back again this year!
