This past week was Holy Week, when we remembered and celebrated the passion, death and Resurrection of Christ. Christians celebrate this time and believe Jesus’ resurrection symbolizes victory over sin and death. During the 40 days leading up to Easter, we had prepared for this time through fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. The observance of Lent is linked to Jesus’ 40-day fast in the wilderness that is described in the Gospels. Lent is meant to prepare everyone for the coming of Jesus. Many traditions are also carried out during the Easter season, including Easter egg hunts, religious services, and visits from the Easter bunny. Families gather together on Easter and often share delicious meals and partake in fun activities. Easter is usually observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. It can fall between March 22nd and April 25th. It is important to remember that Easter lasts 50 days, up until Pentecost Sunday, so we should continue the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection these next few weeks.
